Moodboard and Research

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics project was the last during my year at the National Film and Television School. The brief required a minute long title sequence for the BBC’s coverage of the events.

After visiting a Manga exhibition at the British Museum I decided to create a piece mixing 2D and 3D with an anime aesthetic.

Storyboard

I storyboarded the animation in an illustrative style with the view to completing most of the animation in 3D.

The artwork would use a toon effects with a high contrast black and white palette.

Animation

I began by animating the main character frame by frame using Adobe Animate before moving into 3D. I then built and animated most of the assets in 3D before compositing the completed animation in After Effects.
