Moodboard and Research

I was approached to work on the animation for a film by Mark Chaudoir about the life of Dennis Gould who is a Poet, Artist, Activist and Letterpress Printer.

The brief required a minute long animation to be put into the middle of the film during one of the Poem’s recited by Dennis Gould. After looking at the poem I researched letterpress poster designs and abstract designs.

Storyboard

The intent was to create visuals which were both abstract and also relevant to the references made in the Poem.

I put together a storyboard with an illustrative style, which followed the abstract style you could see in works like those of Salvador Dali.

Animation

I began by working on the 3D segment of the animation and building the 2D artwork in Illustrator and Photoshop. When this was finished I brought everything into After Effects to composite and animate.
